I remember so well how excited I was as a child when Uncle RT and Aunt Claire moved next door to us on Caroline Drive in Columbia. I loved living next to my cousins, even if the ones closest to my age were boys. As a tomboy, I did all I could to compete with them on our makeshift baseball field, or climbing trees. My first impression of a poised and classy teenage girl was Carolyn. She was the closest thing I had to a big sister, and I was just mesmerized by her. 60+ years later, I can still see her beautiful face and quiet smile. Carolyn was my ideal image of femininity. My only regret is that I never told her how closely I watched her then, and how much I wanted to be like her. Love you, cuz. Give hugs to all those we love on the other side.
