Paula Gregg

Obituary of Paula A. Gregg

Paula Anne Gregg, Ph.D., a Mathematics Professor, world-renowned Cat Blogger and life-long resident of the South Carolina Midlands passed away on Monday May 2, 2022 after a swift fight against pancreatic cancer.

Paula is survived by: her father, Roy Paul Gregg: her sister, Dorenda Gregg Truesdale, M.D. (Tracy), Cats: Mr. Jones, KC, and Slinky; and her nephews Russell Gregg Truesdale (Caitie, Zoey, Amelia, Norah, and Cat: Fred) and William Quinton Truesdale (Angel, Loki, Odin, Rune, Cats: Britches and Nomad): as well as her beloved Fur-children, Truffle and Brulee. She is predeceased by her mother, Mary Faye Gregg; her fur-children, Muff, Praline and Beignet.

Paula was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on February 26, 1956 to Paul and Faye Gregg. She graduated from the College of Charleston for Elementary Education and went on to acquire a Master’s Degree in the same field from University of South Carolina, and a doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Secondary Mathematics from Clemson University in 1998 where she also worked as a Grad assistant. She went on to teach mathematics at Converse University and USC Aiken before taking on a position as a level 2 Program Writer for the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.

During this time she began her first blog, Sweet Purrfections, later she became the President of the global, cat-centric professional organization, Cat Writer’s Association.  Paula was also a professional and accomplished pianist, vocalist and recording artist. She could hit a “high C” but also knew when and where was the right time and place to display such singing prowess. Paula was a member, singer and pianist for Park Street and Trinity Baptist Churches.

Paula’s favorite pastimes include: Attending University of South Carolina football, baseball and women’s basketball games; Going out to see new movies at the theater with a bag of popcorn and a small diet coke. She was a lover of just about every genre but most specifically science fiction, fantasy and musicals.

Paula was the kind of person that always seemed to have things going on and plans after plans for businesses and charities and recreation events with friends but her schedule was always made to be open for anyone at the slightest request.

Paula was always well-prepared and present at any event, especially family holidays and gatherings as she would always have her newest camera loaded, charged and at the ready to snap a candid or expected photo. She would always later catalog, label and distribute said photos to everyone present whether in a photo album or on social media. As a family member or friend, you could always count on her for immortalizing every important event of her or your life.

Paula was truly beloved by anyone who shared a single moment with her, even students who thought she was the toughest professor/teacher they’d ever had would still contact her years and decades later to speak of the positive impact she had on their growth.
