Mr. Harold as we called him was vigilant about sending me a card on every Birthday. When they stopped several years ago I solemnly wondered why but never found the obituary until now, years later, on my 33rd birthday. I work sales in a jewelry store and ironically I saw a customer at work today who looked almost exactly like him and it gave me pause, which started this whole endeavor. Mr. Harold was very special indeed and I have saved every one of his birthday cards somewhere. Now I shall go about the effort of collecting them all in his memory! Thank you, Lord Jesus, for sending such a kind-hearted man into our lives! We are all the better for it! Please if any of the family are seeing this, please find a way to get in touch with me!

The desire of Harold's heart was for each family member and friend to know Jesus as personal Savior and Lord. The gospel was clearly given at the celebration of life today. The slides showed him "coming home"... Now would he say to you, "Good night- See you in the morning!" or "Good-bye" because you don't know his Savior???? Because of Jesus, we can be sure that we will be reunited one day... What a day of reunion that will be. Don't miss it!!!!

I so much wish I could be with all of you at the Memorial Service today. I remember Uncle Harold taking me to a meeting as a child about 50 years ago where he shared his heart for the Jewish People. He continued to encourage my heart to grow for all peoples of the world.
During my decades of overseas service in Africa and Asia, Harold would often write and tell me of his prayers and share a Bible verse that was meaningful to him at that time.
Even in his latter years, Harold took me to Lexington Baptist Church and afterwards we had a hearty discussion about the sermon. There were many aspects of Harold's life and character that I appreciate, but his encouragement to me to pursue God's calling was very special to me.
I am confident that Harold is now enjoying walking with his Lord and Savior, but my heart goes out to Ellie and the extended Grubbs family as they go through this time of grieving.
with lots of love, Stephen A. , (and Louise & Josiah)

Uncle Harold was a man who expanded my understanding of what a loving man of faith and a loving husband looked like. I remember visiting my cousins in Florida when I was young, a real treat for a Minnesota girl. He was always so gracious and welcoming, ready to laugh, smile, give a hug or cook a meal. I was so impressed that he had a full-time job and still was committed to a ministry during his off hours. He wore his faith on his sleeve. The love of the Lord and the needs of the people were never far from his thoughts and motivation for whatever he was doing. He will be missed by me and many others and I am comforted by the thought that he was joyfully welcomed to his eternal home in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you all cousins, as you say goodbye this day.

I feel so blessed to have had Harold as my uncle. I remember looking forward to him and Jean visiting during my childhood and I thought they were so interesting and kind. I didn't know that men ever cooked until Harold gave my mom the night off for supper. That was the kind of thoughtful and supportive thing he did, and that he seemed to do always a sincere and joyful heart. He was a man with a servant's heart. In more recent years when I moved to the Carolinas and saw him a little more often, I was grateful to him for his and Ellie's grace and openheartedness toward me.
To my dear cousins, how wonderful that you were able to have Harold with you and your families for so long and that you were in turn able to be a support to him in the recent, more challenging months. Hold tight to one another during these sad yet sweet days.
Cousin Julia

Although I did not get to see my Uncle Harold often, I have sweet memories of him. He was so strong in his faith, but such a gentle spirit. His focus was on those around him and how he could bless them. Whenever I did get to see Harold, his greeting always included an "I love you." His example taught me how meaningful it can be to speak these words out loud to those I love.

Harold was a minister's encourager. He loved the life he had in Christ, and he loved people with whom he could share that love.
