Obituary of Harold Eugene Grubbs

Rev. Harold E. Grubbs, 91, died peacefully in Columbia, SC on April 3, 2018. A veteran of World War II, he served as an infantryman and chaplain's assistant. Rev. Grubbs was born in 1926 to Eddie and Miriam Grubbs during a hurricane in Miami, FL. He became a believer in Jesus Christ at an early age and served in multiple capacities in various churches he attended or led throughout his life with a special heart for God's chosen people. In every aspect of his life, he sought to glorify God and to fulfill the Great Commission. In 1950, he married Jean Anderson of Minneapolis, MN in Miami and raised four children. In 1997, Jean passed away due to cancer and later he married Elberta "Ellie" Acton in Miami. Rev. Grubbs was in the first graduating class of Miami Bible Institute, receiving a diploma in Bible and later earned a Bachelor's degree in Bible from the same institution that had then become Miami Bible College. He was ordained and served on staff with the American Messianic Fellowship (now, "Life in Messiah"), reaching out to the Jewish community in Miami Beach in the 1950's/60's. After that, he worked for two different airlines, retiring from Pan Am. He, then, was on staff at Granada Presbyterian in Coral Gables, FL as pastor of visitation, having also served as an elder and teacher, and preached occasionally. He was an active member at Lexington Baptist Church for many years, teaching and serving. Whatever church he attended, he was fully involved, served well, and taught the Bible in various forums. Rev. Grubbs is survived by three children, David, Donna, and Dan, their spouses and five grandchildren; also, his wife, Ellie, her sons, Roger and Doug, their wives and four more grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, his first wife, Jean, his sisters Ehrlist and Fonnie, and his youngest son, Richard. He deeply loved all in his "full quiver" and the quiver loved and adored him. Rev. Grubbs will be buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery near Columbia, SC later this month. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Music Ministry at Lexington Baptist Church, 308 East Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072 or Life in Messiah, PO Box 5470, Lansing, IL 60438.
