Obituary of Claude Houston Evans

Claude Houston Evans – A Celebration of Life service for Claude Houston Evans, 90, of Chapin, will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. Pastor Larry Hagerty will officiate the service.  A private burial will be held later. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. 

Claude Evans passed away February 14, 2024, at his home with his family at his side. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Claude Henry Evans and Florence McPherson Evans. Claude graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 and worked with the SC Highway Department for 36 years. He served in the US Army for 2 years. Claude was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church and was a 63-year member of the Boyleston Masonic Lodge #123 in Ballentine. He enjoyed living on Lake Murray for 64 years. His hobbies were fishing, golf and Gamecock football. 

Claude is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Evelyn Hipp Evans; nieces, Donna Hipp Smith (C.A.), Janet Hipp (Marion), Lisa Looney; nephew, Bret Howard Hipp (Kathy); sister-in-law, Dorothy Hunter; nephew-in-law, Johnny Pinnix, and a large and loving family. In addition to his parents, Claude was predeceased by his niece, Charlene Hipp Pinnix. 

The family would like to thank Dr. William Fravel, Lutheran Hospice, and friends and neighbors for their attentive and loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 215 St. Thomas Church Road, Chapin, SC 29036.
