David Flickinger

Obituary of David Baker Flickinger

David Baker Flickinger was born on September 23, 1950 and passed away on January 29, 2024.

Born and raised in Poland, Ohio, he was the younger son of the late Chester Albert Flickinger and Dorothy Mae Baker Flickinger, and was predeceased by his older brother, Jeffrey Flickinger.

David is survived by his loving wife of forty nine years, Josephine "Jodie" Nephew Flickinger (married September 7, 1974); and his two daughters, Erin (Jared) Corduan of Mount Pleasant, SC and Katie (Kirk) Baston of Forest, VA; grandchildren Savannah, Wade, Abigail, and Adam.  David is also survived by a large and loving extended family.

David graduated from Youngstown University (BS in Biology) and University of Toledo (BS, MS in Pharmacy and MBA).  After seventeen years in Toledo, Ohio, he left his Director of Pharmacy position at Mercy Hospital to take over the pharmacy at Providence Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina in 1990.  He later moved to a position at Richland Memorial Hospital working in many areas of the pharmacy before transferring to Parkridge Hospital as a part time pharmacist, again wearing many hats as a pharmacist.  His face lit up in a smile when talking about his daughters, Erin and Katie, his pride and joy.  In his spare time, he enjoyed coaching their sports teams, and he dabbled in poetry, essay writing, and photography.

In 2014, he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, and in short order volunteered to be on the board of the Columbia Parkinson's Support Group (CPSG) giving lectures and explaining the pharmaceutical treatments available to Parkinson's patients.  He was a dedicated Rock Steady Boxer, Tai Chi practitioner, and gym member with the aim of inspiring his fellow Parkinson's friends.  As his condition continued to decline, he moved into Lexington Extended Care nursing home, and passed away from complications from late stage Parkinson's.

The family would like to thank: CPSG, Leeza's Care Connection, Right at Home of West Columbia, First Light Home Care of West Columbia, his many physicians and medical teams, and the dedicated staff at Lexington Extended Care for their tireless support all through his illness.

David's cremated remains will be buried at the Ramsey Creek Preserve in Westminster, SC.  A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
