Obituary of Eldon Eargle

West Columbia – Eldon Eargle, 87, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024. He was born in Leesville, SC, to the late Van Horace and Myrtle Risinger Eargle. 

 

After graduation from high school, Mr. Eargle entered the banking profession. Most of his career was spent as a bank examiner with The State Board of Financial Institutions, spending sixteen years as Chief Bank Examiner for the State of Carolina. He attended The University of South Carolina and was a graduate of the School of Banking at The University of North Carolina, The School for Examining Personnel at The University of Illinois and The School of Banking at Louisiana State University.  After retirement, Eldon worked part time as a Banking Consultant.   

He was a member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church in West Columbia. 

 

Mr. Eargle was predeceased by his wife, Violet Bouknight Eargle; two sisters, Joyce Adams and Betty Wheatley. He is survived by his companion of seventeen years, Bertie Bryant; one nephew, Andrew Wheatley (Serena); two nieces, Donna Dooley (Rodney) and Gina Powell (David). 

 

Services for Eldon will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, with burial to follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the funeral home. 

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, West Columbia or State Street Baptist Church in Cayce.
