Obituary of Billy Joe Edwards

OBITUARY – Billy Joe Edwards – Services for Billy Joe Edwards, 79, of Columbia, will be private for his immediate family. Woodridge Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Billy Joe Edwards passed away September 16, 2023. Born in Galivants Ferry, SC, he was a son of the late Junior Edwards and Fronica Reed Soles Edwards. Billy Joe served his country in the US Navy, and had retired from Roadway Transportation as a truck driver. 

We will miss him dearly and he will remain in our hearts always. Our father loved us and made sure we knew it. As kids, he was our hero and or rock. He made us the strong independent women that we are by teaching us to take care of ourselves. Our dad was a loving father, brother, grandfather, son and husband. Our dad was very simple and enjoyed every moment of life .The only thing I can remember my dad saying he really needed was "a comfortable couch and a TV".

The best memories we would have with our dad was going to the Broad River after the damn stopped he would take us to catch bait fish in the rock puddles. There are so many memories with him we really can’t pick the best because every moment with him was the best . In the end, he was proud to be a man of God. We love you Daddy !

Billy Joe is survived by his wife, Judy S. Edwards; daughters, Tara Edwards and Shannon Edwards; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters, Brenda Padgett of Columbia, Barbara E. Whigham (Leo) of Gilbert. In addition to his parents, Billy Joe was predeceased by his brother, Bobby Joe Edwards.

The family would like to thank his caregiver and loving friend, T.J. Wheat, for her devoted care of him.
