Obituary of Helen Bernice Wilson Boone

Helen Bernice Wilson Boone, 87, began life’s earthly journey August 11, 1935, in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Yancey County, North Carolina. She was the fourth child and last daughter born to Don Wilson and Ruby Phillips Wilson. Her heavenly journey began on July 30, 2023. She and Paul, her husband of 63 years, met in a little mountain church and God blessed their marriage with three children; Regina Kay Boone Queen of Gaston, Brenda Fay Boone Counts of Irmo and Michael Ray Boone of Gaston. She also leaves behind two sons-in-law, Jimmy Queen and Tom Counts, and her daughter-in-law, Fran Caines Boone. Eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren were blessed to call Helen “Granny” and received the love and guidance that she freely gave. She taught us love, forgiveness, independence, and to always trust in the Lord and never give up. Grandchildren left with memories are Christina, Amy, Jamie, Sabrina, Jessie, Jenny, Sammy and Wesley. Great-grands who will miss “Granny” are Kayla, John Paul, Meredith, John Henry, Abi, Manny, Bella, JJ. Jace, Jacob, Conlan, Skylar, Penny, Ellie, Dylon, Lila and Oliver.

Called home before her were her parents, two brothers, Donald Dee (R.D.) and Vester Lee, as well as two sisters, Marchie Linnette Cooper McPeters and Lillian Addie Wilson Boone. Surviving are two brothers, Therry and Coy Wilson, and two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Boone Jarrett and Margaret Wilson. Her many nieces and nephews, all of North Carolina, will remember their Aunt Helen as always having a stick of gum to share, a hug, a smile or just a kind word of wisdom.
