Obituary of Bettie Lee Hightower

Bettie Lee Hightower – Gaston – A Memorial Service for Bettie Lee Hightower, 74, of Gaston, formerly of Cayce, will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at the Lakeside Gazebo of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Pastor Brady Henderson will officiate. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Bettie Hightower passed away in the early morning hours of June 13, 2023. Born in Aragon, GA, she was a daughter of the late Roy Lee Ford and Evie Tucker Ford. Bettie is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Earl Hightower; daughter, Rhonda Hightower Zobel of Swansea; sons, Michael Hightower (Carla) of Sumter, Brandon Hightower of Lexington; grandchildren, Summer Leigh Zobel, Dayton Hightower; sisters, Brenda Thompson (Tony) of Early Branch, SC, Sharon Morris of St. Matthews; sister-in law, Carolyn Proveaux of Denmark, SC; brother-in-law, David Hightower of Denmark, along with a large and loving extended family.

In addition to her parents, Bettie was predeceased by her brother, Lawrence Ford; sister, Libby Lipscomb.

Bettie was committed to both her family and career. She started her career at Carolina Eastman in 1972. After a 17 year tenure, she transitioned into water treatment for the City of Cayce, SC. There, she continued her education to become Lab Director, from where she retired in 2010, after receiving several accolades from the city of Cayce.

During that time, she continued to be a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her hobbies included cooking, entertaining, reading (anything by author Stephen King), playing Yahtzee, Solitaire, and spending time with her family.

The family would like to thank the staff of National Health Care in West Columbia for their compassionate care of Bettie. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Abbey Road Hospice, 5429 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212
