Obituary of Thomas Wade Long

Thomas Wade Long,79, of Swansea, S.C., passed away December 15, 2022. Born December 6,1943 in Columbia, S.C., he was a son of the late Meredith Lawton Long and Mildred Levinia Long. Mr. Long proudly served in the U.S. Navy as part of the Naval Construction Battalion, better known as the Navy Seabees. During his service, he earned the National Defense Medal and the Antarctica Service Medal. After his time in the military, he worked in the telecommunications and electrical industries. He loved to go fishing and camping with his family. He enjoyed baseball, and he loved to travel and went on many cruises. He had a quick wit and sense of humor which will be remembered and missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Long is survived by Carrie Hair of Swansea, SC, The Love of his life for 34 years; Three Children, Kenneth Long (Michelle) of Chapin, SC, Karen Curtis (Brad) of Cary, Illinois, and Brian Long (Celeste) of Irmo, SC; Two brothers, Rudy Long (Jeanette) of Baton Rouge, LA, Frank Long (Brenda) of West Columbia, SC; Grandchildren, Summer Curtis, Ryder Curtis, Amber Long, Emma Long, Parker Long, Hampton Long, Breezlyn Doyle (Mason) of Lubbock, Texas, Evan Hodges of Chapin, SC, Carrie Platt (David) of Salley, SC, Joshua Hair (Donna) of St. Matthews, SC; as well as beloved great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long is predeceased by Jeanette Camp Long.

Mr. Long died peacefully after a long battle with Mantle Cell Lymphoma. The family wishes to extend our thanks to his oncologist at the VA, Dr. Palmer; and his doctors and nurses at Prisma Health Baptist and Agape Care Lexington Community Hospice. In lieu of funeral services, immediate family will have a small gathering to celebrate his life at his beloved lake home.
