Obituary of Jack Melton Howard

Funeral services for Jack Melton Howard, 95, of Columbia, will be conducted at 2:30 pm, Sunday, March 6, 2022 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC with Bishop Henry Mobley and H. Larry Jones, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington. Family will receive friends 1:30-2:30 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Howard passed away March 4, 2022.  Born in Columbia, November 3, 1926, he was the son of Mitchell “Mitch” Howard and Myrtis Howard Pope.  Mr. Howard retired from SCE&G in 1982 after many years of service. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting, and fishing.  He especially loved being in his garage where he made and gave away hundreds of Christian crosses, and numerous wishing wells, flower baskets and other yard crafts.  

Surviving include his loving wife, Betty Jean Musselwhite Howard; daughters, Diane Walker (Bill), Belinda Howard, and Sandra Burton (Mike-deceased); grandchildren, Tammie Joiner (Jeff), Troy Rodgers (Crystal), Diana Rowe (Ashley), Robert Burton, and David Burton; great-grandchildren, Christopher Oliver (Jenna), Lisa Rodgers Nave (Matt), Cody Oliver, Shane McKay (Beth), Stephanie Rodgers, Tiffany Davis (Justin), Rebecca Bolin (Shawn), Savannah Rodgers, and River Burton; great-great-grandchildren, Jayla Oliver, Camden Oliver, Aiden Rodgers, Austin Lee, Lilliyn Rose Singleton, Grayson McKay; and other loving family members and friends.

He was predeceased by his loving wives: Modean Chavis Howard (54 years) and Mae Price Howard; grandchild, John Wesley Lawson; great-grandchild, Anthony Glenn McKay; brother, Wilburn Howard; sisters, Eugenia Mobley Crews, and Bessie Martin Ellisor.

Pallbearers for the service are:  Troy Rodgers, Robert Burton, David Burton, Christopher Oliver, Cody Oliver, Jeff Joiner, Ashley Rowe, and Matt Nave.
