Obituary of James Jenkins

OBITUARY – James ”Boy” Jenkins –Lexington - A Homegoing and Celebration of Life service for Mr. James “Boy” Jenkins, 87, of Lexington, will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC. Rev. Dr. Mark Bredholt will officiate. Entombment in the Mausoleum of Woodridge Memorial Park will follow the service. The family will greet family and friends from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, prior to the service in the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park.

Mr. Boy Jenkins passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at his home. Born in West Columbia, he was a son of the late David A. Jenkins and Claretta Hingleton Jenkins. Educated in Lexington County schools, Boy was a member of the gospel group called “The Tones of Joy”, and he enjoyed coin collecting. Boy retired from SMI Steel/Owens Joist Steel Manufacturing Company. He was a quiet, soft spoken man who will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mr. Jenkins is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Hart (Jonathan Hogue) of Lexington; grandchildren, Jessica and Tyler Hart and Alanah Hogue; great-granddaughter, Peyton Jackson; brothers, Larry Jenkins (Peggy) of West Columbia, Fred Jenkins (Delores) of West Columbia; sisters, Angeline Riley of West Columbia, Maggie Gleaton of Irmo, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

In addition to his parents, Boy was predeceased by his loving wife of more than 30 years, Nola Gantt Jenkins; sister, Annie Lou King; brother, Arthur Jenkins, brother-in-law, Samuel O. King, Sr.; nephews, Samuel O. King, Jr., Nemiah Gleaton; niece, Cathy Gleaton; great nephew, Ja’rriel Johnson, and his best friend, Jacob Duck, Sr.

The family would like to thank the nurses of Lighthouse Hospice for their loving care, and his doctor, Dr. Stuart Cooper, his physical therapist, Tracy Chassereau, and his niece, Sharon King-Harris, for her loving and attentive care.
