Obituary of LAURA LUMPKIN

Laura Dowe Lumpkin, wife of Joseph H. Lumpkin Sr., passed away on November 17, 2010. Born March 18, 1925, she was the daughter of James Edward and Mamie Spann Dowe. Laura attended Columbia schools and The University of South Carolina, where she was active in Tri-Delta Sorority. She was a dear friend to many, especially the members of The Bridge Club, of which she was a founding member. These ladies have been close friends and bridge partners for 64 years. Laura is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Joe; son, Joseph Henry Lumpkin Jr. (Carol) of Columbia; daughter, Laurie Lumpkin King, of Spartanburg, SC; grandsons, Joseph Henry Lumpkin III (Maggie), Bryan James Lumpkin, Robert Perry King III (Margaret Ann), Andrew Lumpkin King, Chandler Dowe King; and great-grandsons Simon McBrayer Lumpkin, and Theodore Elliott Lumpkin. Laura and Joe are charter members of St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. A celebration of her life will be held at St. Martin's, 5220 Clemson Avenue, Columbia, SC., Monday, November 22, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall at St. Martin's following the service.
