Obituary of Henry Jeffers McLane

CHAPIN: Henry Jeffers (Jeff) McLane, of Chapin, South Carolina, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 09, 2013 at his home after a courageous battle with a malignant brain tumor. Born in Brunswick, GA on May 26, 1943, he was the son of the late Jack S. McLane, Sr. and Jonnie T. McLane. He graduated from Columbia High School and retired from Ben Satcher Motors in 2008 after forty years in sales. He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Susan Lyles McLane, sons Mark Henry (Claire) McLane and Clinton Shawn McLane; three grandchildren: Iain, Shannon and Grace, brothers Jack McLane and Danny McLane, and sister Connie McLane Humphries. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by granddaughter, Amelia McLane. Jeff was a man of sterling character and integrity whose greatest joy in life was his family. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and made numerous trips to his beloved Scotland. He always said that when he arrived in Scotland, he felt that he had come home. His varied interests included gardening, looking for Indian artifacts annual trips to the mountains with his buddies, and making walking sticks. He regretted that his illness prevented him from completing one last walking stick for his youngest grandchild. Services will be Saturday, January 12 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Union United Methodist Church, Irmo, SC, of which he was a member, with catered reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
