Obituary of Annie Shaw Prevatte

Annie May Shaw Prevatte, 89, of Columbia was born March 5, 1923 at Shaw?s Crossroads in Sumter County, daughter of the late Bertha Madge Griffin of Pinewood and the late William Judson Shaw of Sumter. Mrs. Prevatte died peacefully at her home Friday, January 18, 2013. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hemingway for many years and later at Isle of Palms United Methodist Church serving as a soloist in the choir at both churches. She was a long time member of The Crafty Ladies at Isle of Palms United Methodist Church. She retired to Columbia and became a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She attended Coker College for two years as a Music major then transferred and graduated from Tuomey Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed by Johnson Memorial Hospital in Hemingway for a short while and Williamsburg County Memorial Hospital in Kingstree from the time it opened until her retirement. First married to the late George Taylor Eaddy of Hemingway; second marriage was to the late James Samuel Prevatte of Plantersville. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth ?Beth? Welch, Carol Ann Eaddy and Barbara Dale Eaddy all of Columbia; step-children, James S. Prevatte, Jr. (Wanda) and Eugene Delaire Prevatte (Wanda) all of Georgetown; grandchildren, Marcus (Mellissa), Rae (Jesse), Taylor (Nancy), Maggie (Aaron), Laura, Belle, Tavish (Eric), Bonnie (Fred), Claire (Matt), Mary Britton (Chase), Sallie, Cody, Clint, Caleb and Kayla; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by; step-child, Sherrill Claire P. Senseney (David); son-in-law, Gene Welch and grandson, Brian. Woodridge Memorial Park & Funeral Home is assisting the family locally. Graveside services will be held February 2, 2013 at 2pm at Old Johnsonville Cemetery and will be handled by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway. The family requests memorials be made to the church of your choice in Mrs. Prevatte?s honor or to Palmetto Health Hospice, 1400 Pickens Street PO Box 7275 Columbia SC 29201.
