Obituary of Robert D. Maddocks

"When you were born you cried and the world rejoiced; live your life so that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice." -Quote of The Cherokee Dr. Robert D. Maddocks was released to his higher spiritual place on February 3, 2018 at The Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum, SC. He was born in Kannapolis, NC on August 23, 1949 to Donald E. and Edna A. Underwood Maddocks. He lived most of his life in the Columbia, SC area, graduating from Lower Richland High School and Midlands Technical College. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia as a Respiratory Therapist and graduated from Life Chiropractic School in Marietta, Georgia in 1986. "Dr. Rob" was a practicing Chiropractor in the Columbia area until he retired in 2011. Dr. Rob was a holistic healer of mind, body, and spirit through his skills as a chiropractor, utilizing the powers of touch, kinesiology, and energy work. An innately sensitive, gentle, and loving man, he was deeply connected to his spiritual self and the Cherokee heritage that he studied and emulated professionally and within his personal life. He honored all people, animals, and the earth as sacred and had a deep connection to his horses and dogs. Playing music on the harmonica, dancing, and singing brought him so much pleasure throughout his life, and singing and dancing remained with him even in his last days. Music brought him peace. He is survived by his half-brother, Donald Fisher of Oceanside, CA; aunt, Florence Maddocks of Palm Bay, FL; cousin, Dossy Law of Melborne, FL; and his faithful companion, Bootie. Memorials may be made to The Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum, SC or to an animal rescue or shelter of your choice. "Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here. Hold on to life even when it is easier to let go. Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you." -Pueblo Blessing
