Obituary of Diane P. Homer

October 5, 2017 Dear World, If you noticed today, October 5th 2017, the earth got a far bit dimmer. That bright light illuminating our lives was not the sun, but instead our beloved Diane. Her smile and perpetually joyful nature lit up every room she ever walked into. You could bask in her warmth and palpate her love. No amount of time would ever had been enough with this amazing woman. With her super-human strength, she bravely battled terminal cancer for 5 long years, until at the age of 70, we were forced to part ways. She was born on May 11th 1947, to a quiet Italian engineer (John Perrotta) and a strong German housewife (Gertrude Seffers), in New York City. Growing up along side 3 sisters, she naturally became keeper of the peace, as her visible joy could soften the angriest souls. After grade school and college, she decided to venture south in order to further her education in Sociology. It was at the University of South Carolina where she obtained her masters in education and also happen to meet the love of her life, Dana L. Homer. They got married and built a life together. She worked to better society (as a social worker) and he learned to better machines (as a chemical engineer). Eventually having two babies, Emily & Dan, she gave up her profession to ensure her children would have the best possible upbringing she could bestow. After they grew up and moved away, she went back to the work she loved, bettering society one child at a time and developed a second family in her coworkers. Most people have hobbies they love and although Diane had many projects, her one true passion was always her family. No words will ever describe how much she will be missed. Visitation will be on October 6th from 6-8pm at Woodridge Memorial Park and funeral at same location on October 7th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate to Debbie's Dream Foundation, American Cancer Society, or any charity of your choice in her name. May the light return to you and yours.
