Obituary of Barbara Fayne Reckling Butler

Barbara Fayne Reckling Butler, a life-long resident of South Carolina, died July 26, 2017. Barbara was born in Columbia January 22, 1945. She was the only child of the late William "Billy" Murray Reckling and Euphala "Eufie" Hughes Reckling both of Columbia. She arrived into the world with beautiful red hair, painted fingernails, a baton, dance shoes, gloves, and a cheerfully endearing personality. The Reckling family moved to Cayce, SC in 1950 and Barbara was a resident of the Cayce-West Columbia area for the remainder of her life. Barbara was a 1963 graduate of Brookland Cayce High School. She completed 2 years of undergraduate work at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Barbara was the 1963 Iris Festival Queen and competed twice in the Miss South Carolina Pageant as Miss Cayce-West Columbia. She was an extraordinarily talented dancer. She was employed in Executive, Administrative and Managerial occupations and Hotel Sales and Event Planning with Holiday Inn and Ramada Inn. After retirement, Barbara was an active homemaker for her beloved family. Her Grandmother Katherine Hawley's family were founding members of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Columbia. Barbara considered herself "born" into this church and was a faithful follower. In the last six months of her life, Rev. Doctor James Fraser Lyon IV's visitations and communions were a source of personal strength. Faith, Hope and Love saw Barbara through her life. In addition to being preceded by her parents, she lost her life-long friend since she was 5 years old - Rozanne Holland Hawkins, just weeks before Barbara went to join her. She is survived by the love or her life, husband, Charles A. (Charlie) Butler Jr.; Sons: Bernard LeRoy (Lee) Langston of Cayce; William Layne (Layne) Langston of Cayce and Lawrence Reckling Langston (Kathy) of Atlanta, Ga; Grandson Dakota Langston and; Grand-daughter Lora-leigh Langston of the home and Leah Trudeau of Bolivia, NC. Family visitation will be held from 6 to 8PM on Wednesday, August 2nd at Woodridge Funeral Home, 138 Corley Mills Rd, Lexington, SC. The Memorial Mass will be held at 10 AM Thursday, August 3rd at The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1512 Blanding Street, Columbia, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Barbara Butler's name to The Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, The family wishes to thank Lighthouse Hospice for the loving care shown to Barbara.
