Obituary of Alice Hoffman Staley

Alice Hoffman Staley, 90, formerly of Frederick, MD and Wilmington, NC, passed away April 20, 2017. She was born in Hagerstown, MD to the late Edwin and Alice Hoffman of Mercersburg, PA. Alice was a graduate of Hood College in Frederick, MD, where she met her late husband, Charles Irving Staley. Alice loved spending time working in her flower garden, bird watching, antiquing, fishing, traveling and reading. At her new Laurel Crest residence in West Columbia she continued enjoying her passions for gardening on the outdoor porch, bird watching through the living room window and reading books from the library. She had a way with words like no other; her special talent for letter writing will be missed. She loved her family immensely, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her quick wit, self-less nature and unwavering strength. Without a doubt, she was an amazing role model of character, spirit and spunk. Alice is survived by her daughters, Pat Ogletree (Bill) of Cayce, Carol Staley of Greensboro and Jackie Hooks (Ben) of Wilmington. She also leaves behind five grandchildren; Lauren Sickinger (David) of West Columbia, SC, Katherine Roberts (Josh) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Sarah Pryor (Lee) of Pawleys Island, SC, Dagney Procter (John) of Greensboro, NC and Kristen Beck of Red Lodge, MT and six great-grandchildren; Jackson and Madison Procter, Cort and Alice Pryor and Berkeley and Hayes Roberts. A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at at Mount Olivet Cemetery of Frederick, MD. Contributions may be made to Laurel Crest Retirement Community, Attn: Amanda Mahan, 100 Joseph Walker Drive, West Columbia, SC 29169.
