Obituary of Leroy Theodore Wood

Leroy Theodore Wood - Gaston - A Celebration of Life service for Leroy Theodore Wood, 78, of Gaston, will be held at 03:00pm on Friday, April 21st 2017 at Elmwood Avenue Church of God, 1427 Elmwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29201. Pastor Richard E. Porterfield will officiate. The family will greet friends for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Mr. Wood passed away Sunday, April 16, 2017. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late Theodore Leroy Wood and Evelyn Baughman Wood. His kind heart, loving grace, and giving nature was felt by everyone he encountered. He never failed to make you laugh, to the point of tears, everytime you were with him. He spent his life in service to GOD, and helping to enrich and uplift peoples lives. He loved everyone's children, and treated them like his own. He was such a kind, tender hearted, good man, who loved everybody just like his daddy did. Each of us have countless stories we could tell for hours about him. Many of us will never forget his garden, the fishing and hunting trips, the nights spent at his home with his loving and devoted wife Frances. He loved his family like no one else. He often said, "I don't care how rich you are. You don't have nothin' if you don't have family and a relationship with GOD." Now he is rejoicing in Heaven, as he always longed for. He said the first thing he was going to was see Jesus, then Grandma and Granddaddy. His last words spoken in this world were "I love ya'll with all my heart." He left this world as good as anyone possibly could. He was able to see his loved ones, one by one, and tell them he loved them, goodbye, and not to worry. He would see them again in their own time. We all loved him so much, and he knew it. We were blessed to have him as long as we did, and are truley grateful to GOD for allowing us to do so. Leroy is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Mae Frances Wood; daughter, Marjorie Diane Wood of Gaston, son, Curtis Leroy Wood (Sheri) of Gaston; grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson Gunter (Brad), Sean Thomas Anderson (TJ), Justin Lee Anderson (Jessica), Ryan Christopher Wood; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Meares (Bill), Shirley Hertz, Gayle Jones, Linda White (Woody); brother, Carroll Wood (Mae). In addition to his parents, Leroy was predeceased by a brother, Earl Wood, and an infant brother. The family would like to thank the staff of Lexington Medical Center for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elmwood Avenue Church of God General Fund.
