Obituary of LeRoy Rabon

Irmo --- LeRoy Rabon, Jr. passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at his home in Irmo, South Carolina. He was born in Columbia, SC on November 15, 1934 to the late LeRoy, Sr. and Fannie B. Rabon. He was predeceased by a sister, June Rabon Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Pat Palm Rabon, and his children, Lynn Rabon Maynard (Ralph), Julie Rabon Werner (Richard), Russell LeRoy Rabon (Michelle), and Patty Rabon Foy (Mark). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Suzanne Maynard Jebaily (Michael), Matthew Maynard (Danielle), Patrick Werner, Allison Werner, Ashley Maynard Kastrenakes (George), Natalie Werner, and Leah Claire Foy, as well as four great-grandchildren and his sister Ruth Rabon Ott. LeRoy was a championship golfer, who won the Columbia Country Club Golf Championship, The Azalea Invitational Golf Championship in 1970, The Senior Azalea Invitational Championship in 1994, he won every division of the City of Columbia Championship, including Champion, Senior Champion, and Super Senior Champion, as well as The State Senior Championship, The South Carolina Four Ball Championship, and many more. He was an accomplished woodworking craftsman. He also played baseball at Clemson University for one year before playing for the American Legion Baseball League. Later he transferred to the University of South Carolina and continued a full life enjoying hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and a wide circle of friends. He served in the United States Army, discharged as SP-5. While enlisted he was the Fort Rucker Alabama Base Golf Champion. A celebration of life will be held at McGregor Presbyterian Church, 6505 St. Andrews Rd, Columbia, SC on Friday, March 17 at 2:00 pm, with burial immediately following at Woodridge Memorial Gardens, 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, SC. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerome Baughman, Tony Evans, Alfred Florence, Norman Flynn, Bill Hardy, Bobby Howard, Charlie Rentz, and Bob Stringer.
