Obituary of Leland Barnette

Columbia - Leland "Lee" Barnette Leland "Lee" Barnette, of Columbia, 80, husband of Ammie Johnson Barnette, went to his Heavenly home on January 16, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the son of Alice Kate and Sidney Barnette of Inman, SC. He was the owner of Barnette's Wallcovering and Window Treatments for over 38 years, before retiring in 2001. Lee was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Columbia, where he served as a Deacon, a member of the choir and a member of the Bible Survey Sunday School class. Lee was known as an encourager, and loved being on the Hospital Visitation Committee. He is survived by his wife, Ammie; sons, Keith Barnette (Gina), David Barnette (Colleen); 2 grandchildren, McKinsey and Cameron Barnette; brother, Joe Barnette (June) of Lake Bowen; 2 sisters-in-law, Daphne Brown (Herb) of Greer and Betty Jo Barnette of Inman; brother-in-law, Gerald Rogers of Spartanburg. In addition to his parents, Lee was predeceased by his grandmother, Bessie Turner; brother, Jerry Hugh Barnette; sister-in-law, Shirley Rogers of Spartanburg; brother and sister-in-law, Joe Carroll and Norma Johnson of El Paso, TX. The family would like to extend thanks to Lighthouse Hospice; Stephanie, Elizabeth, Brenda, Ernestine and Dr. Joseph Gabriel. In lieu of flowers, memorials (in Lee's memory) may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201. Funeral services will be private.
