Obituary of Jeannie Stier Butler

Jeannie Stier Butler Funeral Mass for Jeannie Stier Butler will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2017, at Our Lady of The Hills Catholic Church. Burial will follow the service at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet friends at Our Lady of The Hills Catholic Church one hour prior to the funeral. Friends may also call at her residence. Pallbearers for Jeannie's service will be: Michael Stier Flintom, Matthew Hayden Stier, Eric Lawrence Kimrey, Michael Albert Hill, Paul Beckwith and Patrick Nicholas Stier. Jeannie died on January 4, 2017 in peace at her home after a courageous two year battle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her husband, children and siblings. Jeannie was the daughter of the late Albert Holmes (Buddy) and Jeannette Snyder Stier. She was born on November 6, 1940 in Washington, NC. She was a graduate of Ursuline High School in Columbia, SC and attended Dumbarton College, in Washington, DC. Jeannie met and married her husband Jim in 1976, while pursuing her PhD. She earned that PhD in Environmental Sciences from University of Texas at Dallas. Jeannie taught chemistry at Roger State College in Claremore, OK. She began her real estate career in 1985 in Columbia, SC and continued practicing until the present day. Jeannie was an active member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and reader. She served as a board member and treasurer of the Palmetto Opera Association. She loved traveling and spending time with her family. She was a member at Carolina CrossFit, where she created her own workout ethic and belief system. Jeannie is survived by her husband of 40 1/2 years, Jim Butler; children, Amy R. Hill of Dallas, TX, Susan R. Taylor (Stephen) of Atlanta, GA, Stephen S. Butler (Kyoko) of Okinawa, Japan, Phillip S. Butler of Columbia, SC and Patricia B. Gailey (Beau) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Chelsea Hill, Christopher Hill, Zoe Taylor, Helen Taylor, Benton Gailey, Grant Gailey, Palmer Gailey, and Nyx Butler; great-granddaughter, Chloe Homan; sisters, Susan S. Flintom (Jack), Mary S. Hill (Bill), Penny S. Kimrey (Bill), Sue Stier; brothers, Jonathan Stier (Christie), Timothy Stier (Karen), and Hank Stier. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their children. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her nephews, John Flintom III and Wilson Kimrey IV.
