Obituary of John J. McGuinness

John J. "Jack" McGuinness Jr. 82, of Springdale, passed away Friday, October 28, 2016. He was born in Dumont, New Jersey on March 30, 1934. He was the son of the late John and Viola McGuinness. Jack and his family moved to Springdale in 1970 from Bergenfield, New Jersey. Jack was very active with Corpus Christi Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Assembly and Council. Jack was retired with the United States postal service with 30 years of service. He was a volunteer firefighter with Bergenfield, New Jersey Fire Department. On October 27, 2016, Senator Joe Wilson presented Jack with the flag of the United States in recognition of 16 years as chaplain to the association at the request of the U.S.S. Ingraham (DD-694 Association) for the United States Navy. He is survived by the love of his life, Marie, of 61 years; children, Tim (Candace) McGuinness, Pattie (Robert) Rabon, Kathy (Wayne) Gunter, Kevin (Leigh Ann) McGuinness; 10 granddaughters, Ashley, Miranda, Danielle, Mariah, Rachel, Sabrina, Katie, Cyndle, Megan, and Courtney; 5 great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Tyler, Shannon, Noah and Jesse; and brothers, Jim and Michael McGuinness. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Viola McGuinness. A mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Lexington, SC on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends following the mass at the church. Burial will be at a later date. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Assembly #2655 Mother Theresa and Council #11325 of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Hwy, Lexington, SC 29072.
