Obituary of Mary Ellen Haltiwanger Spires

Mary Ellen Haltiwanger Spires, 78, of Lexington passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021.  Mary was born May 15, 1943 in Columbia to Howard B. and Dorothy Mims Haltiwanger.  She was a member of Platt Springs United Methodist Church.  Mary spent the early part of her career as a cosmetologist, and then transitioned into apartment management, where she excelled at making residents feel like family.  Mary was a beloved sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all. 

Mary is survived by sisters Debbie H. Larrimore of Florence, Melinda H. McKay of Gilbert and Sharon H. Grecu of West Columbia.  She is also survived by nephews Kennith “Ashley” Walker, Brian Larrimore, Jody Ray, Chris Haltiwanger, Mike Haltiwanger, Mark Haltiwanger, Jeff Haltiwanger, nieces Judy Genchi and Jackie Haltiwanger and 13 great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by brothers Jackie Haltiwanger, David Haltiwanger and sister Dorothy H. Walker, nephew Davey Haltiwanger and niece Missy Reilly. 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at Platt Springs United Methodist Church, 3215 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.  Following the service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Mary’s honor to Platt Springs United Methodist Church.
