Obituary of Mary Lu Wilson

Mary Lu Wilson, 84, entered into eternal rest on the morning of June 7, 2016, in Lexington, SC. She was born on November 19, 1931 in Clairton, PA to her loving parents, the late Simon P. and Luella Gertrude Dalton. Mary Lu graduated from Clairton High School in Clairton, PA in 1949. She loved music, played clarinet in the high school band, and was known to be a fantastic dancer (her favorites were swing and traditional folk dances including the polka, Czardas and Tarantella). She was a beautiful woman; tall with gorgeous legs. She loved to show them off with her high fashion dresses, short shorts and high heel wedges. After graduating, Mary Lu became a Telephone Switchboard Operator, until automated dialing became the rage. After that, she held a variety of positions at U.S. Steel, Burns Electric Company and more recently, she worked as a Medical Records Clerk at Tri-County Home Healthcare in Lexington, SC. Mary Lu was known for her sharp mind and quick wit. She had an incredible work ethic and was meticulous in all facets of her job as well as in her home. A diehard Pirates and Steelers fan, Mary Lu loved talking about sports and had many other passions through the years including researching SC history, tracking the weather, looking for shells on the beach, collecting lighthouses, rocking on her back porch, reading romance novels, working really hard crossword puzzles, playing cards and posting on Facebook. She loved nature and wildlife; in particular watching the deer in her backyard and playing with her pet parakeet, Buddy. Above all things, Mary Lu was a beloved mother and grandmother. She adored her four grandchildren, spent quality time with each and every one, and took extra care to make their birthdays and holidays special. Her words of wisdom to her friends and family would have been to get out and experience life, take good care of themselves, and keep hope alive. Mary Lu is survived by two sons Wayne Wilson, Sr. (Debbie) of Elrama, PA and Willie Wilson (Joann) of Bothell, Washington and two daughters Nancy Wilson (Danny) of Cayce, SC and Linda King (Kevin) of Lexington, SC. She is also survived by her four grandchildren; Wayne Wilson, Jr. (Kristy), Bailey King, Carson King and Adam Lee Johnson; and many nieces and nephews including her late brother Tom's children (Lynn, Thomas, Jack, and Ann); her late sister Dorothy's children (John and Janet) and nieces and nephews through marriage (Bill, Joleen, Cheri and Jeff, deceased). A Celebration of Life service for Mary Lu, will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, June 10, 2016, at the Pond-side Gazebo of Woodridge Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 138 Corley Mill Rd., Lexington, SC. The family will greet friends following the service at the home of Linda and Kevin King, 230 Leventis Lane, Lexington, SC. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness, love and generosity during this time. A special thank you to Mary Lu's angels at LEC (you know who you are) and the ICU staff at Lexington Medical Center for their kindness and attentive care during her stay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or www.stjude.org/
