One of my earliest memories was the wedding between Russ and Ellie at New Underwood South Dakota and how beautiful she looked!

As a child visiting the Midwest with all the grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins was the ultimate time of laughter, joy and the best memories in life. Aunt Ellie with her grace-filled and graceful character will always be one of my favorite memoires. She was someone to look up to and emulate; her sweet nature and compassion will never be forgotten.

I remember Ellie as such a great sister. Her buying me a toy pistol with her first school teacher pay check. Her singing the national anthem on live radio - what a voice! Her wedding in Farmingdale. Her wearing her Navy uniform in Brookings during WWII, and I was with her - and I was soooo proud. And who can forget the White High School play "As the Scarecrow Creeps" and how frightened I was when the scarecrow was creeping up on her! (I yelled out, "Watch out, Ellie!") The songs we would sing on the way to church in the old '35 Ford - most of them made up by us! Ellie was a remarkable person and will be dearly missed. - Clint Kurtz

My mother was so sweet and kind, I was so lucky to have her as my mom. We are asking everyone to please do " a random act of kindness" in her memory.
How blessed we are as a family , what wonderful memories we have of her and thanks to all of her sisters and brothers for all the encouragement and for coming to visit over the years.

Not sure where to start. I know they don't come any sweeter than Ellie. She appreciated people for themselves & not for any other reason. I was so Happy to share in her experience to get a tattoo. Dee called me up and said Mom wants a Sea Turtle tattoo for her 80th Birthday, will you take us. Needless to say I will never forget us three driving to NC and the look these biker looking guys gave us when we rolled in. They enjoyed the experience, I think as much as we did. Thank you Dee for sharing your Mom with me. :turtle:

Ms Ellie was always known to me as gramma. That's what I called her and quite frankly for many years didn't know her by anything else. She always treated me like one of her own children. She always would give me a big hug every time I saw her. She will be missed.

One of my earliest memories is of taking a walk on a hot afternoon in Norman Oklahoma with Aunt Ellie and my mom (Vivian Coulter). A baby was in the stroller, probably Allen. We stopped and sat on the side of the road and Aunt Ellie began to sing "lazy bones just sitting in the sun..." Mom and I tried to join in but it is Ellie's beautiful voice I remember best. That and her calm sweetness in the midst of the lively chaos we all called family.

When Ellie was in high school, it was recognized that she had a beautiful singing voice. She participated in the church choir and also sang upon request at weddings and funerals. Her accompanist was often her sister, Marjorie. I remember being so proud to be their sister.
