Obituary of Charles LaVon Mooring

OBITUARY – Charles L. Mooring – Lexington – Graveside funeral services for Charles L. Mooring, 86, of Lexington, will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington. Bishop Kevin Carlisle will officiate. The service will conclude with US Army funeral honors. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at Woodridge Funeral Home. 

Charles LaVon Mooring was born in Eureka, NC (Wayne County) on March 21, 1934, the son of Mary Gertrude Ezzell and John Vick Mooring.  Charles graduated from Fremont High School and served in the Navy for 8 years and Army Reserves for 14 years. He worked for many years in pest control as an operations manager. Charles was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many positions, including Bishop. 

Charles was a talented musician and writer, who enjoyed working in his yard, general puttering, sailing and camping. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Charles served as a Boy Scout Leader; he loved children and enjoyed mentoring youth.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Iva Dean Crider; sons, Charles LaVon Mooring Jr. (Eileen), and Michael Vick Mooring (Sharon); daughters, LaVon Michelle Mooring, Kay Vinson (Henry) and Deanna Duffie (Brian); grandchildren, Ryan Harris (Kelly), Charles Mooring III, Jordan Mooring, Lindsey Burrell (Justin), Christopher Mooring, Samantha Mooring, Michael Mooring Jr,  Regan Duffie, Kennedy Duffie, Cassidy Stiglbauer, Collin Stiglbauer; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Wilma Monson, brothers, William, Ronald, Dan, Richard Mooring. In addition to his parents, Charles was predeceased by his brothers Ray, Durwood, John “Pete”, Harold Mooring, and sister, Helen Aycock.

The family would like to thank Eva Stewart, with Heartfelt Health Care, for her loving and attentive care, and his Columbia VA home-based Primary Care team. The family would also like to especially thank his Church family, for their kindness and support.
