Obituary of Todd Michael Alford

Dr. Todd Michael Alford, M.D., LEXINGTON-Dr. Todd Michael Alford, 50, of Lexington, passed away in his home on February 2, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and friends. Dr. Alford courageously battled Lou Gehrig's Disease (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) for nearly eighteen months. Born November 17, 1964 in Lakeland, Florida, he is predeceased by his father, the late William Ray Alford. Dr. Alford us survived by his wife Lori Harris Alford of Lexington, his mother Blanche Fortin Alford of The Villages, Florida, his sister, Theresa de Almagro of Pembroke Pines, Florida and his daughters Kaitlyn, Kendall, Chelsea, and Caroline Alford of Rock Hill. Dr. Alford was a devoted husband and adoring father who was committed to helping and inspiring others through his practice in Psychiatry. Prior to his passing, Dr. Alford was reminded by many family members, friends, and associates, that he left a positive, indelible impression on their lives. He will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, humor, intellect, love of music, and invaluable fellowship. He was an avid tennis player who also enjoyed running, biking, and snowboarding. He was a self- professed " study of the game" in regards to both football and basketball and was a unwavering Florida Gators fan. Dr. Alford earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Florida in 1986 and an M.D. from the University of Florida, College of Medicine in 1990. He performed his residency at Emory University School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at Yale University's School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and Law. Dr. Alford was board certified in Psychiatry, Neurology, and Forensic Psychiatry. He was most recently employed with the G. Werber Bryan Psychiatric Hospital in Columbia. Dr. Alford will be remembered in services at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2350 Augusta Highway, Lexington, SC on Wednesday, February 4th. Visitation starts at 10:00 AM followed by services from 10:30 to 11:30. In lieu of flowers, Dr. Alford asked that donations be made to the ALS Association via www.alsa.org/donate/.
