Obituary of C.D. Waites

West Columbia - C. D. Waites, 91, husband of the late Ruth Anderson Waites, left us on Tuesday, December 30, 2014. C. D. was born on February 11, 1923, in Columbia to the late Abner and Lillie Waites. He was a graduate of Columbia High School before serving in the U. S. Navy during World War II. While on leave during the War, C. D. returned to Columbia and married his sweetheart, Ruth, on August 24, 1944, to whom he was happily married for 58 years before her passing. C. D. and Ruth owned and retired from W & G Tax Service, Inc. He later worked part-time for BankAir and Momentum Logistics, banking delivery services. He was a long-time member of Platt Springs United Methodist Church and the McNair Bible Class, where he was frequently a Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed Bible studies, visiting shut-ins from his Church, gardening, reading, and chopping firewood for his wood-burning stove. He grew the best tomatoes in Lexington County! He was a loving husband and father. C. D. is and will always be much loved by his daughter, Mary Waites Borden, and her husband, Paul L. Borden, as well as his surviving sister, Juanita McCullar, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, brothers Maxie, A. H., Wesley, Tom, Frank, Lewis, Jack, and sister Cornelia Hoover. A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Platt Springs UMC at 2:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 pm. with the Reverend Becky Shirley presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Platt Springs United Methodist Church, 3215 Platt Springs Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
