Obituary of Ralph W Archer

A memorial service for Ralph Waldo Archer Jr., 76, will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 at Christ Community Church, 400 Lexington Avenue, Chapin, SC. Reverend Albert Cox will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. A private burial will be held at a later date in Charleston, SC. Mr. Archer passed away on Saturday, May 11th, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betsy McCarley Archer and their children Ralph Waldo Archer III (Terry) of Bonneau Beach, SC; Robert Barrington Archer (Danielle) of Stuart, FL; William T. Ellis Jr. of Pawleys Island, SC; Dana Ellis Honea (Matt) of Nebo, NC; a granddaughter, Tamara Lee Honea; and a sister Hope H. Lewis (Bruce) of Alabaster, AL. Born in Union City, New Jersey, Ralph was the son of the late Ralph Waldo Archer, Sr. and Georgiana Harvey Archer. The family later moved to Charleston, SC. After his education there he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, served four years and received an honorable discharge in 1954. Ralph continued his education at the University of South Carolina. He was previously employed at General Electric Company, Capacitor Division, in Irmo, SC as a production supervisor. He was a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge #152, the Scottish Rite and a charter member of the first Lake Murray Bass Masters Club on Lake Murray. Ralph lived life to the fullest, "running hard all the way". His interests included fishing, boating, art, music and Shag dancing. He was especially skilled in electronics and mechanics. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to his care- giving team at Regency Hospice for their love and compassion during his illness.
