Our beloved mother, wife, and best friend passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014. She was born in Easley, SC to Brooks I. and Ruth Duvall Selph. Doris graduated from Columbia High School in the fifties when it was located in Downtown Columbia. She was an avid Carolina Gamecock fan that attended many home and away games. Doris retired at the age of 64 after working for almost 40 years as an Executive Assistant and Office Manager for Shakespeare Monofilament Division. Doris loved living on Lake Murray for many years while enjoying fishing and taking evening boat rides to watch the sunset because the water became serene that it looked like glass. She was very outgoing and had a spark that would make friends in minutes and make anyone laugh instantaneously. She also loved to cook, gardening, bird watch, rock in her rocking chair, crack pecans, and eat popcorn. She had a great love for her pet poodles and considered them as her family also. She was predeceased by her parents; and a stepson, Ronald Nichols. Those left to cherish her beautiful memories are her husband, Ernest H. Nichols; four children, William S. Hamiter, Michael C. Hamiter, Terry M. Hamiter, and Tracey L. Hamiter; her stepsons, Keith Nichols and Steve Nichols; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; four siblings, Curtis Selph, Shirley Bullard, Linda Woodward, and Jason Selph; brother-in-law, Jim Bullard; a sister-in-law, Betty N. Bouknight; a host of loving relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.
