My wife and I first met Terry and Jean when we went to live in Ndola, Zambia in the 1960's.
We have many happy memories of those days and none more so than when we were privilged to attend his lessons at the then Bible School of Central Africa.
As a comunicator, both his ministry and ability to inspire Bible study made an indelible impression on us. Quite simply, in our experience, he was without parallel.
Above all, he demonstrated a great love for his Saviour and this shone through in everything he did and said.
Our thoughts are very much with Jean and Esther Ruth and we look forward to the time when there will be that great reunion in the place that the Lord has gone to prepare.

I took his CIU course, "The Gospels / Life of Christ," in Fall 2003. Dr. Hulbert was, by far, the best teacher I have ever had, and I have taken over 200 hours of coursework. He taught in such a way that I felt like I had met Jesus, in Israel, during His life on earth.
Dr. Hulbert was very hospitable as well. He always made me feel welcome when I would stop by his office to ask a question.
I write this with great sadness; but also with great gratitude for the way Dr. Hulbert enhanced my life, and also hopefully has enhanced my ability to teach others God's word. That was his goal. He was a great and Godly man, and will be greatly missed!
My condolences to his family,
Rachel R Foster

I am blessed to have known Dr. Hulbert as a mentor and teacher. Dr. Hulbert's smile and sense of humor made approaching the study of the Scriptures far from intimidating. His personal and passionate approach to studying the New Testament are qualities I try to emulate when I have the opportunity to teach others. God bless the Hulbert family and comfort each who knows Dr. and Mrs. Hulbert with the anticipation of the Great Reunion someday (soon).

I give thanks to God upon every memory of Terry, and I have a lot of them as a fellow missionary with him during his long era in Zambia. One of the first hunts I ever went on was shared with Terry as we followed the trails of Cape Buffalo for 3 memorable days. I sat in awe many times under his brilliant exposition of the Bible that he loved so dearly. We often shared our hearts deeply sitting around a campfire in the middle of the African bush. That you Lord for allowing me to know Terry Hulbert as a dear friend.

We don't really know each other very well, but I have always felt like I've known you, ever since you and my parents became friends. In sorting papers and pictures of Ken and Ivy Downing's, I have come across at least one of the Terry Hulbert family. I have more or less followed you through the CIU publications, as well. You will miss him, but we rejoice in celebrating his life and knowing you'll see him again. I'm sure Ken and Ivy have welcomed him Home!
With sincere sympathy and prayer at this time.

His Sandals
Real life begins @ 89, no shadows and no veils.
A special birthday from this life, no sorrows, pain or cares!
Dear Dr. Hulbert, with eye sight clear and knees no longer bent.
Your seeing Him whom your soul loved, where times no longer spent.
Your kindness to this student girl, so many years ago.
Will add a sparkle to bright a crown, where at His feet you'll throw.
Your gone but all you've left behind, it will not be forgotten.
For in so many hearts like mine, your sandals still are walking!
Blessed are those who die in the Lord....

Old Testament with Dr. Hulbert was one of my first classes I took when I started the grad school in 1977. What a privilege it was to thoroughly study through all of those books under his guidance! What a ministry he had all through the years to so many! I am grateful for his teaching and impact on my life.

To the Hulbert Family, I attended CIU from fall 1994 to winter 1996 and graduated May 1996 from the Seminary. I had Dr. Hulbert for Old and New Testament Survey and will never forget his scholarship, diligence, humility, kindness, sharp mind, and sense of humor. He gave me the impression he loved what he did. I loved the way he got down to business in class. I remember when he handed out the map quizzes, he would always say we had a certain number of minutes, and if we didn't know it by now we didn't know it so just turn it in. I also enjoyed being able to talk to him about a missionary friend of mine, Mary Baker, who was matyred in The Belgian Congo and he knew of her and her coworkers from his time in Africa. One of the most important benefits of my leaving a full time job with a good company to attend Columbia International University was learning from him and being around a man of his character. God give you peace during this time. And we know we will see him again soon.

Our knowledge of Terry goes back to the 60s and we have appreciated his devotion to his LORD, his love for preparation and teaching the Word and his great joy in students.
May the LORD he served comfort the family and all their memories be sweet.
My husband, Bob, is probably welcoming him - that great cloud of witnesses is growing.

As a student of Dr. Hulbert's in the mid 1990s, I grew greatly in my knowledge of and appreciation for the Old Testament. I remember visiting with him in his office running ideas and questions by him...he always had time. In recent years I developed an Old Testament panorama to use in training leaders at the El Camino Christian Bible Church in Arequipa Peru where I currently serve. Dr. Hulbert's class notes served as and still serve as an incredible resource. The Holy Spirit working through Dr. Hulbert made the Old Testament come alive.

Dr. Hulbert was a gracious mentor and one who was always available to listen to me. His method of providing solutions was to never give any but ask questions that gave me fresh insight as well as a better understanding of the situation. His eyes always sparkled with humor and interest and he never let the focus come on him or the difficulties he faced - which he always minimized. We will miss him. - Junias and Beth Venugopal
