Obituary of Norwood Lee Jackson, Jr.

Norwood Lee Jackson Jr.

The family of Norwood Lee Jackson Jr. of West Columbia is saddened to announce his passing on January 15, 2021 at the age of 82. He was born on May 5, 1938 in Los Angeles, California to the late Norwood Lee Jackson Sr. (1908-1965) and Alice Feeley Jackson (1915-1980).

A 1955 graduate of West Mecklinburg H.S. in Charlotte, he attended N.C. State University before proudly serving as an Armament Systems Specialist in the U.S. Air Force. Following his time in the service, he married his loving wife, the former Faye Pruitt of Belmont, NC in 1963. The two moved to West Columbia in 1968 where they raised their family.

After working for Duke Power, Mitchell & Becker, Owens Steel and Pioneer Steel, he co-founded Jackson-Elders Steel Company in West Columbia specializing in steel fabrication in 1983. Jackson served as the President and CEO of the company until in his own words, he took “early retirement” at the age of 80.

To his family and friends, he was known as “Juggy,” a life-long nickname that he said he tried, but could never shake. He was a soft spoken, caring, Southern gentleman with a great sense of humor, who enjoyed making others laugh. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hobbies such as boating, fishing, golfing and reading, and was a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple. He also loved family vacations, dining out, and drinking a glass, or three, of wine.

Norwood will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Faye, his son Michael Jackson of West Columbia, his daughter Dana Jackson Crowley and son-in-law Bob Crowley of Leesville, and his grandchildren, Logan and Lauren Crowley. He was predeceased by his parents and his sisters, Hannah “Boots” Jackson Hargett (1935-1998) and Dinah Jackson Rehmeyer (1941-2004).

A private memorial service is planned for the family.
