Obituary of David Allen Smoak

David Allen Smoak, 71, of Columbia, S. C., died on April 9, 2024.  

David was born in Charleston, S.C. on January 31, 1953, and was the beloved son of the late Mary Moore Smoak Hartfield and Albert Homer Smoak. He was predeceased by his parents; his partner, Ronald Elmore (November 2023); and his older brother, Robert Homer Smoak (September 1971). David is survived by cousins in South Carolina, Alabama, and Tennessee. 

David spent his childhood in Charleston, S.C. and later moved to Columbia, S.C. He graduated from Irmo High School and earned a degree from the University of South Carolina. David retired after a career as an accountant at the South Carolina Department of Social Services. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbia. 

David’s family thanks the caregivers at NHC Parklane who treated David with compassion, respect, and humor. 

A graveside service is planned for Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, S.C. Memorials may be made to Harvest Hope Food Bank, 2220 Shop Road, Columbia, SC  29201.
