I had the honor of serving with and for General Woerner twice, once at Ft. Leonard Wood and later in Panama. As a Latin American Foreign Area Officer, I was both lucky and honored to work for General Woerner while he commanded the 193d Infantry Brigade. One could not have served with a better leader and mentor as his knowledge of and appreciation for Latín American culture and the region’s strategic importance was unmatched. As an educator, I was again lucky to receive quality guidance from him while I began pursuing my post-military career in education. Please know that Claire and I share in your loss and extend our deepest sympathies to Gennie and the entire Woerner family.

An amazing Grandfather and an amazing Soldier. Loved all the times we spent together and the stories we shared. Always would tell everyone who you were and what you did and I will always continue to tell others who you were. You inspired me and motivated me and I can’t thank you enough for that. Love you Grandpop

Grandpop I will miss you. I'll never forget the fun times with you when I visited South Carolina. I enjoyed our phone calls and seeing you in person. You were always fun to be around with and I loved hearing your stories. It won't be the same without you, but I know you are looking down proud of all of us. Love, Justin Woerner.

I had the distinct honor of serving as General Woerner's Executive Officer at US Southern Command in Panama. He was the soldier, leader, and mentor that I know. Duty, Honor, Country, Family is exactly what he personified. My condolence to Gennie and the Woerner family. My heart is very heavy and will miss speaking with the General.
