Obituary of Donald Ray Goings

Donald Ray Goings, 67, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 26, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with illness.  He was born on September 2, 1955 in Columbia, SC to the late Philip and Peggy Elmore Goings.

Donald graduated from Airport High School in 1973.  He was a devoted employee of Vendor’s Supply, Inc. in Columbia, SC, working there for over 30 years as a Warehouse Manager before retiring in 2019. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He loved the many years he spent umpiring and coaching youth baseball. Later in life, Donald loved traveling with his wife, especially to the North Carolina mountains, bird watching and collecting rocks and coins.  His grandchildren were his pride and joy.

Donald is survived by his wife of 43 years and faithful caregiver, Debra Hallman Goings; daughter, Vanessa McWhorter (Josh) of Kingston, GA; son, Travis Goings (Jaclynn) of Chapin, SC; grandchildren, Lily, Bear, Oliva and Lydia McWhorter, and Abby Craig and Ruthie Goings, as well as a beloved foster grandson; brothers, Gerald Goings, Kenny Goings, Paul Goings and Terry Goings; and a number of nephews and nieces.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alan Goings.

A funeral service for Donald will be at 1pm on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 pm.  Interment will follow the service in Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072.
