Obituary of George Martin Jones

George Martin Jones, 76, of Columbia, died Thursday August 4, 2022. Born July 15, 1946 in Ware Shoals, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Horace Martin and Carrie Lou Williamson Jones. George graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1968 with a B.S. degree in Business Administration and in 1971 with a J.D. degree from the USC School of Law.

Mr. Jones knew the value of an education and skilled trades. George worked as a VA disability rating evaluation board specialist advocating for proper benefits for our veterans.

Following the death of his wife Sharon Jones, he met widow Mrs. Sally Garrick at a senior citizens ballroom dancing class. They became companions for 15 years. They enjoyed daily outings to local thrift stores and concerts from the University of South Carolina’s School of Music student and faculty recitals. Mr. Jones was also an avid reader including many western novels.

Survivors include aunt, Laura Robinson; brother, Donald (Nell) Jones of Chester; sister, Jan (Randy) Graham of Spartanburg; nephews, Jeff (Amanda) Jones of Aynor, Jason (Sue) Jones of Chester, Bryan (Katelyne) Graham of Spartanburg; nieces, Caroline Graham of Spartanburg, Amy Pearson Etheridge and Abby Pearson.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sharon Jones; his sister, Nancy (Bill) Pearson; and his companion, Mrs. Sally Garrick.

Funeral services will be private at Woodridge Memorial Park of Lexington, SC.
