Obituary of George W. Summer

George W. Summer, 79, of Leesville, SC, passed away peacefully at his home on April 8, 2022. George was born in Columbia, SC to the late Harry and Catherine Summer. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret Summer; his children, Kendall Summer (Maria) of Fountain Inn, SC, Karen Oliver (Edward)of Lexington, SC, Teresa Mozingo (Joseph) of Lexington, SC, Tina Jordan (Al) of Lexington, SC, and Lisa Mosier (Jim) of Lexington, SC; sister, Ann Summer of Aiken, SC; 12 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved parrot, JoJo. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Summer.

George enjoyed spending time on the lake, and was an avid NASCAR Fan. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary where he worked as a Communications Officer for both organizations. He was also the Secretary of The B & L Ham Radio Club. He was employed by Monsanto of Greenwood, SC until his retirement.

Funeral services for George W. Summer will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 16, 2022 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC, 29072. Entombment in the Woodridge Memorial Park Mausoleum will follow the service. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the Woodridge Mausoleum Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Civil Air Patrol, South Carolina Wing Headquarters, 3901 CAP Wing Drive, West Columbia, SC 29170, or the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Association, 1301 West 1st Street, Suite E1, Granite City, IL 62040, or the charity of one’s choice.
