Obituary of Jerry Ray Mintz

Jerry Ray Mintz, 81, of Hopkins, South Carolina, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018.  He was born on July 13, 1937 in Haywood County, North Carolina to the late William Otis Mintz and Emma Cogdill Mintz.

Jerry Mintz had the distinct privilege to design and build top performance racing engines for Pontiac and NASCAR.  His talent and passion for racing has been passed down through two generations.  This bond and talent is shared with his sons and grandsons, who have broken many records throughout all of their racing careers.

Mr. Mintz is survived by daughters, Sandra McCullough of Hopkins and Nancy M. Poston of Lexington;  sons, Otis Lee Mintz of Columbia, Gerald Mintz of Hopkins and Randall Mintz of Columbia; along with brothers, Lee Roy Mintz of Thomasboro, IL and Bruce Pierce of Candler, NC. His brother Carl Mintz of Candler, NC, preceded Jerry in death.  Surviving grandchildren are Emily Mintz, Miles Mintz, Justin Mintz, Austin Mintz, Matthew Mintz, Christopher Turner, James Hair, Casey Hair, Megan Mintz, Chloe Mintz and Landon Mintz; and two great-grandchildren, Lily Turner and Adam Mintz.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at Mt. Elon Baptist Church, 718 Mt. Elon Church Road, Hopkins, SC 29061 with family visitation immediately following in the church fellowship hall. Pastor Charles Wilson will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Mt. Elon Baptist Church at the above address.
