Obituary of Bobby Wayne McGee
OBITUARY – Bobby Wayne “Yogi” McGee – West Columbia – A memorial service with US Navy funeral honors for Bobby Wayne McGee, 84, of West Columbia, will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 10, 2022, at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, SC 29073. Pastor Dow Welsh will officiate. The family will greet friends following the service in the Thompson Funeral Home chapel.
Mr. Bobby McGee passed away Friday, February 4, 2022. Born and reared in Graniteville, he was the eldest child of the late Frampton Simpher McGee and Myrtle Belle Padgett McGee. Bobby joined the US Navy at the age of 17; signed in by his father, and was discharged the day before his 21st birthday. While serving with the SC Highway Patrol in Sumter County, he met the love of his life, Mary Emily Hudson. He transitioned to the Driver’s License Division, and retired from the agency as the Driver Improvement Manager. He spent his retirement years taking care of the joys of his life, his granddaughters.
Bobby McGee is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Mary Hudson McGee; son, Mitchell Mason McGee of West Columbia; daughter, Bobbi McGee Jacobs of Cayce; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Mari and Megan Ashlee Jacobs of Cayce; sisters, Carolyn Leopard (Leron) of North Augusta, and Linda Rowe (Jimmy) of Saluda; sisters-in-law, Sandra Key McGee of North Augusta and Sharon H. Tuttle (John) of Sumter; brothers-in-law, William L. Hudson of Manning and Harry L. Hudson, Jr. (Pam) of Wilmington, NC, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bobby was predeceased by his brother, Linwood “Bo” McGee and sister-in-law, Barbara A. Hudson.
The family would like to thank Dr. Greg Fulcher and Wendy; Deborah and her hospice care team for their loving and attentive care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, 140 Stoneridge Drive #640, Columbia, SC 29210, Prisma Health Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, 7 Richland Medical Park Drive, Columbia, SC 29023, or the charity of one’s choice.
