Obituary of Rufus William Sturkie, Jr.

Rufus “Mannie” William Sturkie, Jr. – GASTON – Services for Rufus “Mannie” William Sturkie, Jr., 82, of Gaston, will be private. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mannie Sturkie passed away January 4, 2022. Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late Rufus William Sturkie, Sr., and Doris Hutchinson Sturkie. Mannie served his country in the US Marine Corps, and owned his own custom cabinet and woodworking business. He loved to fish and go shrimping. Shagging was also one of Mannie’s favorite pastimes.  Mannie was a loving son, father, grandfather and brother who will be missed by all who knew him.

Mannie is survived by his children; son, Victor Vogt, of Gaston; daughter, Tonya “TJ” Arnold of Gaston; grandson, Micheal Richburg (Andrea) of Irmo, granddaughter, Taylor V. Arnold of Pelion; brother, Arthur Wesley Sturkie (Bennie Fae) of Lexington. In addition to his parents, Mannie was predeceased by his sisters, Judy Newton, Gail Breedlove, Marie “Micky” Sturkie.
