Obituary for Faye Gregg

Mary Faye Gregg, 85, passed away on Saturday, December 18, 2021, after a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Faye was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on June 19, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Rostand E. Smith and Roberta J Smith.

Faye is survived by her husband of 67 years, Roy Paul Gregg, who was her lifelong partner. She is also survived by her two daughters, Paula A. Gregg of Lexington, SC, and Dorenda G. Truesdale (Tracy) of Belton, SC; grandsons, Russell G Truesdale (Caitie) and William Q Truesdale of Anderson, SC; great granddaughters, Zoey Truesdale, Amelia Iden, and Norah Truesdale.  She was preceded in death by her brothers, Rostand E. Smith, Jr, Bill G. B. Smith, Harry Smith, James Edward Smith, and Donald M. Smith; and sisters, Dorothy Seay and Betty Jo Graham

Faye was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Cayce, SC and enjoyed the fellowship and lessons in her Sunday School Class, the Joy Sunday School Class, led by Paulette Harper. She spent most of her working career as an office manager of the Poe Corporation. She was a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile at Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia, SC.

Faye’s favorite pastime was attending sporting events for the South Carolina Gamecocks, especially the football and women’s basketball games.

Faye loved her family and looked forward to spending time with her daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She would play with them, read to them, and cook for them. One of Faye’s passions was baking. She would spend days during the holidays baking goodies with friends and family and would take large trays of cookies, candy, and sweets to her husband and daughters’ workplace, the church, servers at a local restaurant, and to friends.

Faye was known as "Momma Gregg" to everyone who met her, and she always treated them like family. She never met a stranger and had an infectious laugh that would bring a smile to everyone’s face. She was a gentle soul who loved life and the people in her life.

The family would like to say a very special thank you to the staff of Amedisys Hospice and Home Health Services in West Columbia, especially Violet, for their care of Faye while she was at home dealing with Alzheimer’s Disease and to the staff, especially the nurses, at Agape Community Hospice House for their special care and support of Faye during her last days.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association at https://bit.ly/3yOU2rU.
