Obituary of Ellis Woodrow Martin, Jr.

Ellis Woodrow Martin Jr., a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, December 12, 2021. He was 83. He was born in Little Mountain, SC to the late Ellis Woodrow Martin Sr. and Ruby Louise Martin.

Ellis was a faithful man who loved the Lord, his family, church, community and sharing his faith.

After serving in the Marine Corps, his life long career was spent as a heavy equipment specialist.

One of Ellis’ biggest joys in life was watching his children and grandchildren play football, softball, baseball, volleyball, tennis, basketball, soccer, boxing, golf and track. There wasn’t a home/away game or guitar recital he missed.

After retirement, Ellis loved his time at the family farm where he spent time with his sons, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren tending to the land and cows. He also enjoyed his many outings with his brother in Christ, Lonnie Sheppard, where they were known for finding the best eating establishments in the state.

He was an elder at Life Springs Worship Center where he loved to share his faith in God with others. He was a Prayer Warrior and prayed for others up to the end.

Ellis is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan; daughters, Martha (David), Marianne (Greg), Jean; son, Alan (Mitzi); grandsons, Chris (Sara), Corey (Aimee), Jacob (Sloane), Matthew, Luke and great grandchildren, Alston, Brody, Ellee and Eden. In addition to his parents, Ellis was preceded in death by his sons, Michael and Tommy.

There will be a private service and burial. The family will hold a Celebration of Life service in January at Life Springs Worship Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations to Life Springs Worship Center, St Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
