Obituary of Nancy Joanne Johnson

Nancy Joanne Johnson of West Columbia, SC went home to be with the Lord on
August 19, 2021.  She was born to Ansel Ray and Carrie Lee Kanning in
Laurens, SC.

Surviving are her children, Billy Matthews, (Debbie), Tina Dickerson,
Michael Matthews, (Melinda), Leeann Nickoson, (Don Pritchard,) Sharman Padgett,
(Curtis); grandchildren: Billy Earl Matthews, (Mariah), Angel
Matthews, Melissa (Missy) Dickerson, Takota Matthews, Michael Crider, (Elise)
Matthew and Diamond Nickoson, Dustin Early, (Brianna), Parker
James and Maddie Padgett; 19 great-grandchildren;  a brother, Randy
Kanning, (Debra); nieces, Brenda Ann Lynn, and Tami Hersey; and many
other relatives whom she loved dearly.

She was predeceased by her parents; grandson, Charles "Pebo" Dickerson; sisters,
Doris Garrett, Mildred Burnett, Carolyn Garrett, Brenda Faye Jones,
and a brother, Steve Kanning.

For many years prior to her retirement, she was a Home Health Caregiver
and enjoyed helping others.  She loved the lord, studying the
bible, and was a member of Northside Baptist. She also loved to sing
and was honored with the name "Songbird' by her Native American
friends and family.  Her most favorite thing to do was spending time
with her family, and telling her wonderful, extraordinary,
funny, and always interesting stories, especially to all her children,
grand and great-grands alike. She was a wonderful, creative,
imaginative storyteller, and those of us who were blessed enough to
have shared in them will be forever grateful for the precious
memories.  She loved her home, the look and smell of newly cut grass,
and was especially thankful and appreciative of her son-n-law, Charles
"Pedro" Dickerson, whom she loved for always making sure her yard was
pristine. She was and always will be loved and adored by her family
and friends and dearly missed.

Funeral Services will be held in Woodridge Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel at
12:00 PM on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Burial to follow the service in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors for one hour prior to the service at 11:00 AM at the Mausoleum Chapel.
