Obituary of WILLIAM H. TURNER

A Service to Celebrate the Life of William H. ?Bill? Turner, 83, of Columbia, formerly of Greenville,will be held 3:00 pm Monday, September 27, 2010 at Ashland United Methodist Church with Pastor Joel R. Jones officiating. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday in Graceland West Cemetery, 4814 White Horse Road Greenville, SC 29610. The family will receive friends at Graceland Mortuary from 11am until the hour of the service. Bill passed away following a brief illness on Saturday, September 25, 2010, with his daughter and son at his side. He was born in Greenville, SC on May 12, 1927 to the late William A. Turner and Isabelle H. Turner. He graduated from Parker High School, and Draughn?s Business College of Greenville, and continued his education with business courses at Furman University. He served in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Vixen. Following his military service, he returned to Greenville and began work with Carolina Bearings. He then began his career in banking with Peoples National Bank (later NCNB). He retired as an executive with First Union National Bank in 1990. Bill was a member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church of Greenville, and following his move to Columbia he regularly attended Ashland United Methodist Church with his children. He had been an active member and past president of the Greenville Lion?s Club, a member of the Masons, and a life-long Furman sports fan. Bill is survived by his loving children, Deborah Turner Willing and William Matthew Turner (wife Lucy Douglass Turner); grandchildren, Holly Paige Willing, William Douglass Turner, Katherine Grace Turner and Amelia Rose Turner (all of Columbia); his brother, Charles Donald Turner of Greenville; his sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mr. Turner was predeceased by his beloved wife of 44 years, Vivian Moss Turner; and son-in-law, Barry L. Willing. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington, SC has been entrusted with the arrangements.
