Obituary of EDWARD E. JEFFERIES

Edward Everett Jefferies, Jr, 81, of Columbia died at his home Wednesday September 22, 2010 peacefully by his Brother Davis? side. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Bettie Wilson Jefferies who passed January 20, 2009. He was a member of the US Navy from 1946 ? 1948. Following his military service, he worked in the finance industry for years then in sales. Eventually he started his own business, Ed?s Satellite Antennas in Chapin, SC. He was an avid golfer, at one time in the 60?s setting the course record at the Camden Country Club and later became President of Mid Carolina Country Club, where Ed and Davis once won the Senior Championship. Ed enjoyed taking many cruises with Bettie. He was a big Gamecock Football Fan and attended dozens of games near and far. Ed is survived by his sister Flora Mae Leonard and her husband Russell of Yakima, Washington and brother Davis Jefferies and his wife Margaret of Jacksonville, FL. He has four daughters Betty Lou Jefferies, Clairee Woodley(Greg Wassman), Madeline Jefferies, of Columbia and Alice Perkins of Chapin, SC. Edward has six grandchildren Chris Adams, Jeff Saul, Michael Saul, Summer Woodley, Carley Perkins, and AdamWassman, and one great grandchild Isla Rose Adams. The family will welcome friends at 1 PM on Monday, September 27 and invite all to attend a Memorial Service following at 2 PM. The service will be held at Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church at 1500 Broad River Rd Columbia, SC 29210. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations in Edward?s memory be sent to the Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church, 1500 Broad River Rd Columbia, SC 29210, to use for the upkeep of the prayer garden where Bettie?s angel stands and the food bank.
