Obituary of David M. Mitchiner

Visitation for David M. Mitchiner, 78, of West Columbia, will begin at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at Saluda River Baptist Church followed by funeral services at 1:30 pm officiated by Pastor Charles Westbrook. Burial will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Woodridge Funeral Home of Lexington has been entrusted with the arrangements. Mr. Mitchiner passed away on Sunday, May 15, 2011. He was born March 21, 1933 in Wake County, NC to the late Simon T. Mitchiner and Bessie Mitchiner. Mr. Mitchiner was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in theater during the Korean War. Following his military service, he graduated from N.C. State with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. He was employed for several years with the Eastman Kodak company in Tennessee and South Carolina. He then formed his own industrial supply company, Plant Supply, from which he retired. He was a long-standing member of Saluda River Baptist Church, and was very active in the community. He was especially involved with the Lions Club, having served as President, and also volunteering his time to run booths at the SC State Fair for many years. Among his other activities were the Shriners, the Scottish Rite Temple and the Masons. He loved woodworking and handcrafted many furniture pieces. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 49 years, Frances O. Mitchiner; daughters, Terry de la Paz (husband Robert Smith) of Madison, AL, Sandra Mitchiner Dyer of Gilbert, SC and Polly Mitchiner-Senecal (husband, Robert Mitchiner-Senecal) of Pisgah Forest, NC; son-in-law, John Powell of West Columbia; sister, Margaret Majure of Roanoke, VA; brother, Simon Mitchiner of Fair Oaks, CA; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Tay Mitchiner; and his beloved daughter, Margaret Powell. The family wishes to thank the staffs of UniHealth and Agape for the care they provided to Mr. Mitchiner.
