Obituary of Sammie E. Cash

Memorial services for Sammie E. Cash, 88, will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 25, at Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Rd, Lexington, SC. Born November 6, 1923, in Chauncey, GA, Mr. Cash passed away February 20, 2012 at his home in Irmo, SC. After retiring from SCE&G with 38 years of service, he continued working for SCE&G at VCS as a contractor for PrimeSouth until age 70. He was an avid builder, woodworker, overall handyman and loved spending time in his workshop. He was also known on Irmo Drive as the man with the nicely manicured lawn. During World War II, Mr. Cash proudly served in the U S Merchant Marines onboard the M/S ?Edwin B. Winans? and the US Army Hospital Ship, ?Seminole?. Mr. Cash is survived by his wife of 67 years, Katie, of Irmo, SC; daughters, Cynthia Page and husband, Gary, of Lake Wylie, SC; Shelley Cash of Columbia, SC; and Dee Dee Whitaker and husband, Gary, of Irmo, SC. In addition to his parents, Eugene and Ruby Cash, Mr. Cash was predeceased in death by his brother, James Blake Cash (Mary) of Huntsville, AL. and sisters Maxine Santos (Marvin), Joyce Porter (Thomas), and Florine Sanders, all of Charleston, SC and Jackie Miller (Ken) of Marietta, GA. The family will receive friends at Woodridge Memorial Park following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, Mid-State Chapter, PO Box 7044, Columbia, SC 29202-7044 or to the American Heart Association.
